About

My sculptures are primarily organic in nature, using wire and sometimes natural fibres to create objects of simple elegance. I like the challenge of softening the tension in wire to produce fluid lines.

After creating the exterior frame of the piece, I then wrap finer wire around it to create the essence of a shape rather than a solid form.

By letting the eye complete the picture, it allows the space between the lines to produce a feeling of movement, the passage of light through the object and the information of shadows against the wall.

I sometimes use woven fabric or copper mesh to extend the idea of wrapping or covering the piece, yet letting the base wire remain evident.

I studied Sogetsu Ikebana for several years, and I see my wire sculptures as an extension of this art form. The elegance of line and form are shared between both practices.
